Oh Dear, Sweet “In ‘Da Hoodie”………
With the current state of the economy, it’s far and few between these days to have a best selling blowout Item as a designer. No one is shopping, not even spend-aholic me!!! The little money that I have to spend is just ITCHING in my pockets, but since consumers haven’t been consuming, that leaves me the manufacturer on a very tight leash. This economic slow down just blows hard all over! Even with all the fifty percent off the already eighty percent markdown, customers just can’t seem to part with their hard earned cash these days. It’s been even more uber frazzling because it forces me to only work that much hard to keep re-inventing myself season after season. Let me tell you, this is not an easy task! It’s so difficult to be inspired in a world where gloom n’ doom, and constant uncertainty are the “house specials” day in and day out.

This season I looked back at my classics, the pieces that brought me to this point in my career. Staples that I sell season after season; items Women just can’t seem to live without. I turned to my EASY fleece hoodie, although far from high- fashion, offers versatility, comfort and longevity to the cash strapped Fashionista, and revamped it with recognizable Meghan touches that are closest to home for me. Take for instance the zip-up hoodie; a mainstay in every Californian wardrobe……. Young, old, male, female, tall, short; the fleece hoodie refuses to discriminate, while offering warmth, protection, and style harmoniously to the customer.
I grew up within a family of quiltmakers; my first project was when I was four years old. My Mom was always sewing something and crafting. We had scads of vintage quilts tossed around the house just waiting for an afternoon napping companion or good library borrowed nail biter. I was always curled up in a quilt around the house, I even was brought home from the hospital swaddled in a yellow quilt that my Grandmother made special for me. I have always had a quilt covering my bed, currently my bed is so lucky to have this heirloom number made by my Great Grandmother some Fifty years ago!
I have always been drawn to the “simplistic detailing” that makes up a quilt. I love all the different fabrics and prints, and the endless possibilities and patterns imaginable, it is mind blowing. I adore that a quilt is made from remnants or scraps of old fabric, putting to good use something that otherwise would be trashed. I love the patina that a quilt takes on after time… the wear and obvious love that offers a feeling of comfort, security, and complexity all at the same time. So naturally I couldn’t resist lining the “In da Hoodie” with one of a kind vintage quilt fabrics, to make you feel like you are wrapped up in one of my Grandmother’s quilts. Even the Iconic Meghan Butterfly on the back is patchworked!

And then we come to the Butterfly… In my mind, the butterfly symbolizes the evolution of a woman, and this hoodie couldn’t have enough butterflies on it! I think a lot of Women can associate with Butterflies, and find Butterflies beautiful too. Butterflies are elegant, mysterious, and sexy… and I have tacked them down to the In Da Hoodie with oversized Cross Stitching….
When I was a kid, I was obsessed with cross- stitching, and my Mom would enroll me in needle working classes when I was in elementary school. It was different than sewing, and i loved the outcome that this stitching technique had. It was my first introduction into real embroidery, and it showed me that there was so much more you could do then just sewing. On my cozy hoodie, I put over- sized cross- stitching wherever I could! It is a fun stitch and reminds me of my childhood; and all those kooky after school needle work classes I used to take!
I am notorious for naming styles after men that I fall head over heels for… there has been the Ross, Andy, and Cameron Hoodies just to name a few. It is so pathetic, really. I always seem to give my heart away to men, that is why there is a key on the zipper… it is the key to my heart. But this time it was different. This was the bomb style. I think I am finally getting it right . The Cadillac of all Hoodies…. In Da Hoodie…Now I’m giving YOU the key. Sorry losers, I mean Boys. I guess my wings are finally starting to get out there this time.
Good news for you, I have a few In Da Hoodies left… well maybe not anymore. I hope that you get out there and make it happen too!!! Peace, Love and FASHION!!! OXOXOX, Meg
